Rous Water is in the process of finalising a draft plan designed to secure water on the Northern Rivers until 2060.
The authority is considering a number of different water generating strategies to ensure its supply can keep up with future demand.
“It’s been narrowed back to five options and there are various scenarios within those options ranging from a new dam to desal to groundwater extraction and indirect potable re-use.”
The strategy is expected to be finalised early next year.
