One level of carparking at the Westfield Kotara shopping centre is still closed as investigations into an overnight car fire continue.
Fire fighters were called to the scene just after 2am, locating a burning Holden Commodore which is believed to have been driven into the complex and set alight.
The car’s fuel tank exploded causing damage to the concrete roof and leaving steel reinforcement beams exposed.
The vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire.
A structural engineer has made an inspection of the building.
Apart from restricted parking, the centre is open for trading as normal.
Detectives are looking for two males seen in the vicinity of the car park at around 1.50am this morning.
Is this a protest about the 3 hour free parking limit at Westfield Kotara?
