JOYCE CALLS FOR FEDERAL BAN ON SYNTHETIC DRUGS

Nationals candidate Barnaby Joyce has called on the Commonwealth to immediately enforce a national ban on the sale of synthetic illicit drugs.
It comes as the New South Wales government extends its ban on the trading of 19 types of synthetic drugs to 120 days.

“I’m asking for Minister Plibersek to basically step away from campaigning just for a second, and start governing the country again. It is extremely important that she understands that this destroys people’s families.”

Mr Joyce says he’s met with families affected by the issue, including Boggabri’s Robyn Traynor, whose nephew was clinically dead for 30 minutes after using a synthetic drug.

“I have met these people, and the first thing you do as a human being – and it’s the same as anyone, you don’t have to be in politics to do this – you’re moved, and you think that is wrong, and responsible person tries to bring about some change some effect so it doesn’t happen again.”
