Cyclists will soon have a safer path between Merewether and the Fernleigh Track.
Almost $200,000 in State Government funds will be used to widen the shoulder along the Pacific Highway between Scenic Drive and the Fernleigh Loop.
A retaining wall will also be built.
State Member for Newcastle, Tim Owen says it will help improve safety.
“People will cycle a lot more if they could be seperated from the cars and that’s exactly what we are trying to acheive here in the city.”
Motorists are being advised of short delays when work starts this week, with construction is set to be complete next month.
