The man who pushed for the Gold Coast’s first University has made another contribution to education, donating $25,000 to Griffith University.
John McIlwain wants to encourage more youth to take up Engineering and Science Studies.
“There are not enough engineers in society within Australia.”
The money will go towards Griffith’s ‘Science on the Go’ program, which targets school-aged kids.
“Showing them it’s fun and interesting, that there are good jobs at the end of it and demand for people with those skill sets and really try to excite them about studying science.”
Mr McIlwain will receive an honorary doctorate later this year.
