Taree councillors have unanimously decided to push ahead with the acquisition of a key parcel of land for the Big Swamp project.
Council is in the process of acquiring 400-hectares of land, and will now move to attain another 242-hectares.
The project aims to rehabilitate former farmland, affected by an acid sulphate problem.
Once complete, the Big Swamp will extend into the Cattai Wetlands, which has undergone a decade of environmental restoration.
