STOCKTON RESIDENTS OUTRAGED AT TREE PLAN

Stockton residents say they’re outraged at Newcastle Council’s plan to plant hundreds of trees along Mitchell Street.

Resident, Bob Deaves says they’ll lose their ocean views and have organised a petition against the project.

“Everybody’s views, everybody’s views along here are going to be blocked out.. it just makes no sense.”

Newcastle Council says the street has been identified under its living streets scheme, which aims to increase vegetation across the city.

It says trees will only be planted in front of every second property boundary, and that frequent pruning will ensure views are maintained.
