Reports of illegal banana growing on the mid north coast has prompted the Department of Primary IndustrieS to remind residents that a permit is required to grow the fruit.
Illegal plantations could cause the spread of pests and diseases such as the Bunchy Top virus, which is currently contained to North East New South Wales and Queensland.
Backyard growers can contact the DPI for details on obtaining a permit.
