WHITEHAVEN COAL RESPONDS TO LEGAL ACTION LAUNCHED BY FOREST RESCUE

Mining giant Whitehaven Coal has responded to legal action pursued by South East Forest Rescue.
The forestry group claimed Whitehaven failed to comply with its agreement to provide more than $5000 worth of biodiversity offsets at its Maules Creek mine, near Narrabri.
The offsets were to act as compensation for the critically endangered ‘box gum’.
However, the mining company says the Federal Government granted it an extension to register binding covenants for the offsets, until 2021.
South East Forest Rescue is currently seeking declarations from the Federal Court.
