AURIZON TO HAUL WHITEHAVEN COAL

Rail freight company Aurizon has announced it’ll team up with Whitehaven Coal to haul up to 16-million tonnes of coal each year from the north west region to the Port of Newcastle.
Starting from July 2014, the 12-year contract will see Aurizon transport coal from rail loading facilities at Maules Creek, Narrabri, Gunnedah and Werris Creek.
Aurizon says it’ll also work with both Whitehaven and the Australian Rail Track Corporation to expand the region’s rail network and allow for heavier load capabilities.
