‘BLESSING OF THE WATERS’ TRADITION HONOURED IN NEWCASTLE

An ancient Greek Orthodox ritual was honoured in Newcastle today, as crowds gathered at the Bogey Hole to celebrate ‘The Blessing of the Waters’.

There was a frantic search as a group of young men battled it out to retrieve the crucifix thrown into the water.

Tradition says the winner will enjoy good luck and health for the rest of the year.
