AWAS SAY GOODBYE

It’s the end of an era for the Queensland branch of the Australian Women’s Army Service.
Members held there last-ever Christmas party at Currumbin RSL today.
The 30-year-old group has decided to disband, due to age and ailing health.
“I’m one of the youngest ones and I’ll be 77. A lot of them are in their 90s and we’ve got no younger ones coming on, so we’ve had to fold-up you know.”
The AWAS formed after World War Two and has supported more than 1,000 ex-service-women.
