NEW SUPERMARKET BOOSTS LOCAL JOBS

The new-look Southgate shopping centre was officially opened to the public today.
The $12-million makeover is set to boost the city’s economy, providing more than 100 residents with jobs.

“We’ve employed everybody except for about two people are local community members, and those two people came from other Coles stores in the region still, so they were Inverell and Armidale-based. So, everyone else has been a local person who’s been employed.” Mel Smith-Marshall, store manager.

Aboriginal elder Yvonne Kent gave the Welcome to Country, while the Gomeroi dance company and Tamworth South choir kept the crowd entertained.
