Residents have been told to move their vehicles away from trees and to ensure loose outdoor items are secured or moved under shelter.

Motorists should take care on the road, looking out for fallen trees, and should stay at least eight metres away from any fallen powerlines.

Hazardous conditions are expected to ease by late tomorrow morning, with wind speeds dropping below hazardous speeds by the afternoon.

A separate hazardous surf warning has also been issued for the Newcastle, Sydney, Seal Rocks, Nelson Bay and The Entrance.

The heavy surf could cause damage and coastal erosion, with the worst of it predicted along coastal locations of the southern Mid-North Coast, Hunter and Metropolitan -districts.
