BHP Billiton is preparing to begin the design phase of its proposed underground mine at Caroona.
The mining giant says its drilling program in the area is nearing completion, and the project is ready to move to the next level.
Once the mine plan is developed an Environmental Impact Statement will be prepared which will include the results of the Namoi Catchment Water Study.
The company maintains it won’t conduct any open cut mining in the Caroona exploration area, or mine under floodplains or deep alluvial aquifers.
