POLICE INVESTIGATING LAKE MACQUARIE UNIT FIRE

It’s been a stressful morning for residents living at a Lake Macquaire unit complex, after a fast-moving fire ripped through a unit.

Firefighters were called to Doongara Close at around 5:30 on Wednesday morning to find the townhouse well alight.

Fire and Rescue New South Wales Commander Doug Swilks said it was a difficult blaze for crews to contain.

“Our main focus when we got here was the, the buildings on either side – being townhouses, they’re close,” Comm Swilks said.

Forensic officers arrived on the scene a short time later, working to determine exactly what started the blaze but neighbours said they saw flames coming from a parked car before the building itself went up.

Meanwhile, in a seperate blaze, an abandoned Telarah home has been gutted.

It was the second fire at the same address in three months.
