Ballina’s bar is one step closer to a much needed dredging.
Yesterday Mayor, Phillip Silver unanimously passed a mayoral minute at the council meeting that will see the formation of a bar taskforce.
Council will join forces with the Chamber Of Commerce and the local Fishermans Co-operative to push for dredging in the Richmond Ballina bar, North Creek and Trawler Harbour.
Council hopes that dredging will draw more recreational water users to the town.
“The issues are very pressing, not just from a safety perspective but also coming together with the Ballina Bypass, the town, regions missing out on quite a bit of boating tourism.”
The taskforce is expected to be set up within the next week.
