As of the March state election, Moree will no longer be part of the Barwon electorate.
Due to boundary changes, the town will become part of the Northern Tablelands.
Mayor Katrina Humphries believes this is good news and her focus with the new MP will be on health, education and roads.
“We really need to make sure that we get betterment done on the Gwydir Highway at the washpool and at Garah on the Carnarvon Highway. These were jobs that were promised three years ago, but hasn’t come through.”
Mrs Humphries says it’s unacceptable Moree can still be cut off from two major highways when there’s heavy rain.
