A six year campaign to save Newcastle’s iconic Regal Cinema finally ended today when Lord mayor John Tate handed over the keys to the cinema’s trust.
The cinema in Birmingham Gardens has been empty since 2006, when the building was declared unsafe.
But a $140,000 state government grant will help refurbish the building, which is due to re-open early next year.
