BODY BLOW FOR HUNTER BUS BUILDER

Bad news today for workers at the Volgren bus building plant at Tomago, with the announcement that the facility will be mothballed.
40 full-time positions will be wound up by September.
It follows earlier layoffs in May.
The $18-million plant opened in 2009, employing up to 200 people to build the New South Wales Government’s bendy bus fleet – but it hasn’t been able to secure any further long-term contracts.
A service division will continue to operate at the site.
