LEGAL WOES COULD STOP DIY ROADS PROJECT IN ITS TRACKS

The push for a ‘do it yourself’ approach to repairing gravel roads in Lismore looks likely to be shut down for legal reasons.
Councillor David Yarnall was working towards developing a roadcare program, where under supervision, residents could fill in potholes and do repair works with council materials.
“This wasn’t for the highway or our main roads, this was to get some maintenence done to our 400 kilometres of our gravel roads which are underfunded to the tune of 50%.”
But insurance experts fear the project would be too dangerous and could leave council open to litigation.
