MAITLAND MEETS TO SAVE RAIL

An army of opposition is building as the state government prepares to announce it’s cutting the rail line into the Newcastle CBD.

Around 50 people have this afternoon asked mayor and head of the Hunter Infrastructure Fund, Peter Blackmore, to make sure they’re not disadvantaged by any decision.

NBN News can reveal the Planning Minister is considering a $70-million plan to cut the line and landscape the corridor into Newcastle station.

  1. Congratulations to Save Our Rail for the planning workshop.

It is time for the Government to be open and transparent about its “cut the line proposals” for Newcastle.

Landscaping and improvements can be done without cutting the line.

Its my understanding that major improvements are due to be undertaken shortly and that recent track work closure was to do some preliminary work.

  2. There is no need to cut the rail line into Newcastle CBD, as it is an important mode of transport. Just think about the cost of fuel for private transport that will soar in the future! what then, a call to rebuild the line? This is all about developers geting their own way at the expense of the community.
