JETTY FORESHORES TREES NOT POISONED

Coffs Harbour community organisation, Jetty Action Group, says it won’t give up on trying to prove trees and plants along the jetty foreshore have been deliberately poisoned.

It follows the results of tests commissioned by council, which found extremely high levels of salt were to blame.

“We’ve had some very high seas that’ve actually come in and that salt’s mixed in with the water table, the plants that are actually drawing their water source from that, they’re actually taking that sodium chloride up into their system and it’s unfortunately killing some of the trees,” said acting General Manager at Coffs Harbour City Council, Craig Milburn.

Council says it’ll release a full report once it’s available – the Jetty Action Group will now consult with an independent soil scientist.
