I had very rare expensive palms planted on my footpath all dwarf variety’s the council cut them down now they have to Moe my footpath as I refuse to look after council land anymore.
This story was about my home. The 7 huge palms they cut down were cocos, and I was aware of their label as a pest. However that is not why I contacted nine news. The council has a new Citywide Greening Project, and they are not just cutting down pest plants. My neighbour had their native bottle brush cut down and others have lost topiary figs, and other palms & trees not listed as pests.
As stated in the story I was not questioning the Council’s Pest Policy at all, but I was questioning their policy of cutting down other trees in order to continue with their so called Greening project.
As stated in the letter from the Council they are removing all Palms identified as weeds OR high maintenance, and any other trees they deem as undesirable.
If anyone is worried about trees being cut down outside their homes, regardless of the their pest status, I suggest you contact the council on 5581-6984.
