A two day state planning commission meeting is underway in Singleton, over the proposed extension of the Mount Thorley Warkworth mine.
Community groups and individuals have raised a number of concerns over the plan, including what they claim will be health effects, and the loss of biodiversity and heritage aspects.
Coal and Allied says the extension would create another 150 jobs.
