BOOST FOR MARINE SCIENCE RESEARCH

Coffs Harbour’s marine science research sector will receive a boost over the next 12 months.

16 research positions will be moved to the city from the New South Wales Fisheries department in Sydney.

“It would give us great opportunity to study the marine environment in the Solitary Islands Marine Park, and at the same time bring scientists into what is now recognised as a world class facility. It can also give us an opportunity to attract the full course for marine biology to the Coffs Harbour Campus rather than Lismore.”

The move was announced by the O’Farrell Government last month, as a way to decentralise metropolitan based departments.
