LEARNER DRIVER BEHIND POLICE PURSUIT AND ASSAULT

It’s been revealed the 18-year-old Valentine man arrested following a police pursuit and assaulting an officer, is on his learner’s licence.

Police attempted to stop a stolen Holden Captiva in Gosford on Monday at about 7.15am, but allege the driver accelerated away from them.

A pursuit commenced, with the car colliding with another vehicle and coming to a stop.

The male driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested after a short foot chase. He allegedly assaulted a police officer during the arrest.

A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly revealed a number of stolen items.

The driver of the second vehicle was unhurt, but a 69-year-old female was taken to hospital suffering shock.

The man was charged with a number of offences including resisting police, drive recklessly, and for not having his L plates on show.

The man appeared in Gosford Local Court yesterday and was refused bail to reappear in the same court on Thursday 6 June.
