CHATHAM TEACHERS VOW TO FIGHT ON

Teachers at Chatham High School say there will be further industrial action next week if their case isn’t listed to go before the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission by Monday.

The teachers are angry that a male student, who has a history of aggressive behaviour and has taken weapons to school, has been returned to Chatham High despite being expelled.

He attends the school for an hour each day under strict supervision.

Staff have been refusing to teach the first hour of classes, and say they’ll stretch it to two hours next week if changes aren’t made.

The Department of Education maintains Chatham High is the best place for the student, who enters school grounds under strict conditions.
