YOUNG ATHLETES CONVERGE ON LISMORE FOR SWIMMING & BASKETBALL CHAMPS

The North Coast’s most promising young swimmers were in Lismore this weekend for the inaugural short course championships carnival.

133 athletes from Forster to Tweed Heads hoping to splash their way into the event’s first record books.

“Every carnival’s a stepping stone to the future and this is where the coaches who train them can see how their technique is under the pressure of training, little mistakes they make and also tells the swimmer if they’re improving.”

Meantime Lismore also played host to the Northern Junior Basketball league, with around 300 kids competing in the round robin event.

“From this and under 18s they can go into state league in this area and then can go through to nationals.”

The young players travelling from as far as Tamworth for the competition.
