TOURISTS FLOCK TO BYRON

Byron Bay continues to sit well with tourists.

A report has found visitor numbers increased by 12 per cent over the past five years.

Despite the economic climate, Byron attracted more than 1.4-million tourists last year, up from 1.3-million in 2006.

2010 saw a shift in the type of visitors, with the number of day trippers increasing by 32 per cent, while domestic overnight visitors decreased by 10 per cent.

Byron Shire Council says the change could see more money pumped into local businesses.
