Fallen merchant mariners have been remembered in Newcastle a key port in the second world war.
Passing ships made for a fitting backdrop, for the 14th such memorial service.
14,000 Australian men went to sea during the war, and it’s still snot known exactly how many made the ultimate sacrifice.
Peter Morris from the Merchant Navy Memorial Committee said “During world war two there weren’t necessarily records because Australians were lost on British ships, Canadian ship, on American ships, on other allied ships.”
