NADEN ARRESTED

Fugitive Malcolm Naden is in custody at Taree police station after being arrested near Gloucester just after midnight.

Naden was arrested by special operations police after he emerged from a house 30 kilometres west of Gloucester.

Police say the operation was sparked when officers received intelligence last night.

Naden reportedly tripped sensors placed in the house by police and was bitten by a police dog during the arrest.

Just after 11am today Naden was taken to the Manning Base Hospital to treat the wound, but overall appears to be in reasonable health.

Naden has eluded police for seven years and is being questioned over the murder of a 24-year-old woman in Dubbo in June 2005, the disappearance of another woman, and indecent assault on a 15-year-old girl, the wounding of a police officer and property offences.

Around 50 officers have been searching the terrain around Gloucester and Nowendoc daily after Naden allegedly shot an officer in Nowendoc last December.

The father of Malcolm Naden’s missing cousin, Lateesha Nolan said he was excited to hear the news of the arrest and was worried the search would drag on forever.

Naden is expected to front court today.
