THREE PEOPLE ARRESTED DURING ANTI-COAL PROTEST

Coal trains bound for Newcastle port came to a halt this morning while a protester was suspended from a make-shift tower.

Police were called to Sandgate just after six this morning to find a woman hanging from a wooden tripod metres above the tracks, blocking all rail movements to Kooragang Island.

A 32-year-old man and two women, aged 20 and 24, were arrested for related offences.

They’ve been granted conditional bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court in October.
