The Newcastle Jets can begin their search for a marquee striker, following positive talks with Football Federation Australia in Sydney today.
The Jets wanted assurances that A-League clubs could have a foreign marquee as well as a home grown star, after they signed Socceroo Jason Culina last month.
New Zealand’s Shane Smeltz is now the club’s main target, but the Jets say they’ll also continue to scour overseas leagues for other high profile strikers.
