The Department of Human Services has been criticised for adopting “a lock them up and throw away the key” mentality – towards young offenders.
The claims have been made by a Central Coast psychologist who’s worked with juvenile delinquents for more than a decade.
Late today the Department of Human Services told NBN it has a number of programs in place designed to prevent juveniles from re-offending.
It added the majority of teenage delinquents in New South Wales never see the inside of a detention centre.
