PORT VOLUNTEERS HEAD NORTH

The drive from Port Macquarie to Ipswich is expected to take them ten hours, but that hasn’t deterred a group of volunteers keen to help out the flood devastated city.

A dozen Coastside Church members left for south east Queensland this morning, armed with food, cleaning products, gumboots and toys.

They’ll be using their mobile BBQ trailer to hold daily lunches for clean-up crews and flood-affected families.

“It’s actually just come back from Kinglake. So we went down there and helped out with the disaster with the fires and we were down there for 18 months as they rebuilt. And now we are taking it up to help the guys in Queensland.”

A second group is heading north on Monday, and there’s still room for more donations.
