FLYING FOXES IN LORN GET THE MESSAGE AND MOVE ON

Hundreds of flying foxes, frustrating residents in the Maitland suburb of Lorn, have finally decided to move on.

Numbers dramatically dropped last Thursday, and by the next day the area was completely vacated by the noisy visitors.

Former ecologist Bill Dowling believes the bats’ food supply was running out, and it’s possible the colony has moved near Medowie.

The surprise shift came as Maitland Council was finalising a strategy to deal with the bats – the focus now turns to keeping them away.

  1. Thanks heaps for your story on Timor caves. It is a truly wonderful please don’t be afraid of the bats in some caves. The Eastern Cave bat is a beautiful animal who consumes its own weight in insects every day. – Ian, Timor.
