DECISION TIME FOR WAUCHOPE’S FIGS

The future of a stand of historic fig trees in Wauchope’s Hastings Street should be known this week.
The trees were due to be removed back in June amid fears their roots were damaging neighbouring properties and infrastructure.
An outcry from locals led Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to further investigate options for the future of the trees.
The council engaged a geotechnical contractor to undertake soil analysis at various locations in Hastings Street.
Council administrator, Garry Payne, is expected to rule on their future at Wednesday night’s council meeting.
