Police are appealing for help from the public, after a man was shot in the legs near Nelson Bay overnight.
The 31-year-old was found by emergency services with gunshot wounds to both his thighs, inside a property at Corlette.
He was rushed to John Hunter Hospital with suspected broken femurs.
Police say the man is refusing to speak with officers.
Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to come forward.
