It’s been all about the ladies on and off the track, in Ballina today, at the sixth annual Iris Nielsen Memorial Cup.
The event features female-only races, in a bid to recognise and support female jockeys in the area.
“It’s named after Iris Nielsen who was a local pioneer jockey here, who unfortunately lost her life in Lismore and this race is to honor her memory”
It’s now the second biggest event on Ballina’s racing calendar, behind the Ballina Cup.
“The prize money is the same as the Ballina Cup, I think in the long term it’ll become as equal importance of the Ballina Cup”
