POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

A New South Wales police officer has been charged with using unreasonable force during an arrest in the Hunter last year.

The 28-year-old senior constable attached to the Northern Region was today charged over the incident which occurred in Carrington on Saturday 2 July 2011.

When police were called to the area following reports of a brawl, a 17-year-old male suffered injuries during the course of his arrest.

The officer has been charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
