COAL LOADER ON COLLISION COURSE

Transport workers and the Maritime Union are on a collision course with the operators of Newcastle’s new coal loader, which is due to be officially opened on Monday.
The National Secretary of the MUA, Paddy Crumlin, claims the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group has signed its workforce up to agreements that will see them paid about 17 per cent less than their counterparts working at the port’s other loaders.
Chairman of the NCIG, Tony Galligan, says the new loader has cost a billion dollars to build, employed several thousand people in its construction and represents a new industrial relations model.
