NEW LEASE ON LIFE FOR MELODY AND HER NEWBORN

Hunter Koalas has issued a plea for dog-owners to be cautious, after a young koala and her newborn were nearly attacked at Port Stephens.

4-year-old Melody was found at Lemon Tree Passage on Tuesday morning, perched on a gate to escape dogs.

She was rescued by Hunter Koalas, who later discovered she had a two-month-old baby in her pouch.

Melody was kept for observation, before being released on Blanch Street.

The organisation says dog-owners need to be on alert in areas with high koala populations, as one bite can be fatal.

  1. Hello,
The Koala Preservation Society is doing a wonderful job. I hope Melody and baby will live a long and happy life and that they will meet up with some other friendly koalas in their habitat.
