THINGS THAT GO BOOM IN THE NIGHT

If you thought you felt a shake, rattle and roll last night about 10.30 you were right. No not thunder, nor an earth tremor, the RAAF has confirmed the most likely cause was a sonic boom from jets involved in exercises about 50 kilomtres off the coast of Port Stephens.

The East Coast Air Defence exercises have been underway for the past two weeks but last night atmospheric conditions, helped carry the supersonic soundwaves to the coast and lower Hunter.

There were reports of rattling windows and doors from Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens and as far inland as Singleton.

The exercise continues for two more nights.
