The restoration and redevelopment of the former Coutts Sailors Home and surrounding heritage buildings in Newcastle East has been given the green light.
Newcastle Council approved applications to subdivide the land, and build a two-storey dwelling.
The state’s Heritage Council has set out around 30 terms, which must be met by the developers.
Meanwhile councillors have been briefed on $5-million worth of internal refurbishments, needed for City Hall to meet building code requirements.
The venue could be closed for 12 months while the work is carried out.
