As many as 50 containers have been located off the coast of Stockton, following a shipping spill in late May.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has been conducting a seabed search for the past 10 days.
It’s believed some of the containers are still intact, while others have broken apart.
A further assessment will be made as to what risk they pose.
83 containers were lost from the YM Efficiency, causing tonnes of debris to wash up on Port Stephens beaches.
