FIREFIGHTERS SAVE NEWCASTLE HOME

Firefighters have saved a home in the Newcastle suburb of Hamilton.
A plumber had been carrying out work on copper piping earlier in the morning on the home in Buchanan Street.
A neighbour noticed smoke coming from the home and phoned 000.
Two fire crews, one from Hamilton and the other from Newcastle put the fire out.
A bathroom under renovation was badly damaged.
Firefighters say the neighbour’s quick actions almost certainly saved the home from being destroyed.
