Lismore City Council is investigating the illegal dumping of nearly one-tonne of material contaminated with asbestos along Cusack Road in North Lismore over the weekend.
Council staff quickly disposed of the hazardous materials, which were likely from an old bathroom.
“People should know better, particularly when disposing asbestos at a waste facility is only $250 a tonne ”
If caught the offenders face fines of up to $250,000 for individuals and $1-million for businesses.
It’s the second case of illegal dumping in the area over the past four months.
