The christmas clean up is underway and Tamworth Regional Council
estimates more than 196 tonnes of garbage and 63 tonnes of recycling will be created over the festive break.
Consumption levels and waste are at their highest levels in late December, but there are ways to reduce the environmental impact.
Wrapping paper can be recycled but only after separated from styrofoam, tinsel and ribbon.
As always boxes, plastic and empty bottles can be disposed of through landfill recycling collection points or kerbside recycling.
