The third test drill at Murrurundi is looking promising, as the Upper Hunter Shire Council continues its search for a permanent bore to supply the town with water.
Of the three drills, one has been completely ruled out, while two others remain a possibility.
It’s unclear yet whether one can be converted into a supply bore to get the town out of trouble.
If unsuccessful, Council has a list of back-up measures, including carting water from Scone.
Residents are invited to a drop in session on Monday between 11.30am and 1.30pm.
